Reverse Float Sprinting

Reverse Float Sprinting

Full disclosure - we obviously did not invent float sprinting here at Liberty U. For as long as I can remember, reaction drills and float sprinting were part of the genre. My first introduction, from Swimming Faster The Auburn Way with David Marsh, circa 2007, came while an assistant and the sprint coach at Penn State. Although almost 20 years old, it is still a great video and one I highly recommend.

I am a fan of the reverse float, where a partner tows the swimmer in reverse. After the whistle blast, the athlete is forced to reverse their momentum - requiring a greater amount of force to do so. Similar to the start machine, I love needing to reverse momentum rather than simply starting from a dead stop or dead float.

One can use nearly any form of resistance - we love weight belts and Power Towers as the momentum includes both the mass of the athlete, AND the Tower/belt, thus increasing the challenge.

You can find all of this and more in my book - and while approaching ten years old - is now more relevant than ever. It makes a great gift for that young coach you are mentoring!
